Description
Petitioners
Brothers and sisters of the Hospital of St James by Westminster.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The brothers and sisters of the Hospital of St James by Westminster state that a suit being determined in the present parliament concerning their right to free election, between them and Philip de la Wike, who was appointed Master of the Hospital by Edward II on 8 December in the twentieth year of his reign, has been halted by Philip's claiming that the king is under age, and that nothing can be done until he comes of age - and in the meantime Philip is dissipating their resources. They request a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to proceed to judgment without delay, notwithstanding the king's minority or the maintenance of great men.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered by a writ containing the effect of this petition that, when they have examined the other commands and processes etc., they are to proceed to a final determination of this business without delay and do justice. And if there is some good reason why they should not proceed etc., they are to inform the council of it.
