Description
Petitioners
People of Great Yarmouth.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The people of Great Yarmouth state that John de Bretaigne and the people of Little Yarmouth and Gorleston are attempting to have their charter of franchises annulled, by suing in King's Bench. They request a writ to the justices to proceed to judgment in the plea, and if there is some underlying reason why this cannot be done, that they might bring the plea before the great council now in parliament, so that the business can be determined.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be issued in Chancery to the justices, that they are to proceed to judgment as swiftly etc., or if there is some underlying difficulty why they cannot proceed without consulting the king, then they are to have the record and process of the whole business brought into the next parliament.
Places mentioned
Grant Jernemuth (Great Yarmouth), [Norfolk]
Petite Jernemuth (Little Yarmouth), [Suffolk]
Gorleston, [Norfolk].
People mentioned
Edward [I], King of England
Edward [II], King of England
John de Bretaigne (Brittany)
Geoffrey Le Scrop (Le Scrope), justice.
Note
This petition would seem to have been presented before the judgment on the petitioners: a note on the guard dates it c. 1334, but this seems too late.
