Reference
SC 8/54/2665
Date
[1386]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Great Yarmouth.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The burgesses of Great Yarmouth ask that they might be able to have their franchises, granted by the king and his progenitors, with all their usages during the time of their fair, as they used to, notwithstanding any statute or ordinance to the contrary.
Nature of endorsement
They are to explain their franchises, and in what way they have been disturbed.
Places mentioned
Grant Jernemuth (Great Yarmouth), [Norfolk].
Note
CChR 1341-1417 p.224, the original grant of the franchises, is date 22 August 1372. They are revoked in 1376, then re-granted and revoked by Richard II, and re-granted again on 28 November 1386 (CChR 1341-1417 pp.305-306). If these are the same franchises, it seems likely that the petition dates from 1386.
