Nature of request
The men of Great Yarmouth state that the tronage of their town has been taken into the king's hand because the man they chose as troner, Peter de Clippesby, did not take an oath in the Exchequer as he should have. They request restitution of the tronage, as Peter deceived them, saying that he had taken the oath, and as he has made fine for the contempt thus caused.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer that if the troner mentioned in this petition has made fine in the Exchequer for the contempt committed by him against the king, in that he had used the said office before taking an oath there, and if the said tronage is in the king's hand because of the said contempt or because the said troner was not presented by the same burgesses at the Exchequer, and not for any other reason, then, when a reasonable fine has been received from the burgesses, if in this case a fine can be received by right, the Barons are to make restitution to the said burgesses of the said tronage, to hold according to the purport of the charter made to them on this.
