Description
Petitioners
Men of Great Yarmouth.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The men of Great Yarmouth state that demands are still being made on them for corn that they carried to Gascony in the twenty-fifth year of Edward I's reign, for his war there, as Nicholas Baret, the receiver of the king's provisions at Bourg died without rendering account, and John de Sendal, who was then appointed to draw up his accounts, also died before finishing his task. They ask the king to order John de Sendal's executors to bring the documents concerning Nicholas' receipt of the corn to the Exchequer, and that the demand on them might cease until it is established who should be charged with the said corn and justice is done.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent to the Exchequer, and the Treasurer and Barons are to have John de Sendal's executors appear before them, and also the rolls, tallies, indentures and other evidence concerning Nicholas receipt, as is claimed by the petition, and also other remembrances touching this business; and if by examination of them, or by account rendered or to be rendered they can find that delivery was made to Nicholas of that corn, then they are to discharge the men of Yarmouth of this according to reason.
