Description

John de Ifeld, knight
Name(s)
de Ifeld, John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
John de Ifeld states that the manor of Gomshall in Surrey, which is held of him, was taken into the king's hand because of the outlawry of Roger Sauvage, who held it, and granted to John de Pulteney to hold at his pleasure. After the king had had the year, day and waste, John de Ifeld sued to have delivery of it, but John de Pulteney has purchased a supersedeas to obstruct this delivery. He requests a writ of sicut alias to the Sheriff of Surrey, to give him seisin notwithstanding this supersedeas.

Note
CCR 1333-7 p.10 is dated at York, 30 January 1333, and p.146 is dated at Hereford, 25 October 1333. The petition was clearly presented between these two dates.CCR 1330-3 p.436 is dated at Waltham, 20 February 1332. CCR 1330-3 p.515 (the original order for delivery of the manor) is dated at Beverley, 1 January 1333, and CCR 1330-3 p.520 is dated at Beverley, 3 January 1333.The commission for CMI 1307-49 no.1209 is dated at Clarendon, 2 December 5 Edward III (1331), and the assessment took place on the morrow of St Thomas the Apostle: which agrees with the petitioner's claim that this inquisition was returned in Chancery around the octaves of St Hilary in that year. The writ to hold the inquisition in CMI 1307-49 no.1280 is dated at York, 15 December 6 Edward III (1332), and the inquisition was held on the morrow of St Thomas the martyr.Unfortunately the date of piece 109 of SC 1/39 can no longer be read. However, William Vaghan appears to have been Sheriff of Surrey between 19 November 1331 and 8 March 1334: which does not fit in with the petition, which seems to suggest that he is no longer Sheriff.
