[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Adam de Irlaund (Ireland)
Name(s)
de Irlaund (Ireland), Adam
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Adam de Irlaund states that Thomas Earl of Lancaster had granted him the hospital of Pontefract, for term of life, but that after his death Hugh le Despenser the son expelled him and procured the hospital for one of his allies. He requests restitution of the hospital.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the justices appointed to hold the king's pleas that, when they have seen the deed etc., and called before them those who are to be called, and heard their arguments, they are further to do justice.
Places mentioned
Pounfreit (Pontefract), [West Riding of Yorkshire]
Burton-upon-Trent, [Staffordshire]
People mentioned
Thomas [of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster
Hugh le Despenser the son.
Note
Dated on the guard to '1322 seq.', with reference to CPR 1321-4 p.85 (dated at Pontefract, 24 March 1322) and CPR 1327-30 p.22 (dated at Westminster, 21 February 1327), and dated to 1322 by 'Irish Ancient Petitions', pp.17-18. But it must date from around 1327, as the petitioner complains against Despenser and speaks of having been with the Earl of Lancaster at Burton. It seems likely that it was delivered to the 1327 parliament, just before the confirmation of Wodehous as Keeper of the Hospital.
