Description

King and council
Nature of request
The people of Ireland complain that, although they have always used the laws of England and the usages of their country, the Justiciar of Ireland is now pleading certain cases without the king's writ, and the Treasurer is pleading them by writ of the Exchequer. They ask that the king grant them the Great Charter of England and the articles, under his seal, so that they might be maintained in them, and also a writ forbidding the Justiciar and Treasurer from using such novelties.
Nature of endorsement
The Justiciar of Ireland is to be ordered that they are to plead debts exceeding 40s. by the king's writs and not by bills; and to have the Great Charter, they are to pay what the English do.
