Nature of request
John, son of Roger del Ille, states that the justices do not wish to proceed without the king's command in his plea against John de Margny concerning half the manor of Grafton Regis in Northamptonshire, because John de Margny is claiming to hold for term of life of the king's lease. He requests that they be ordered to proceed, so that justice may be done to him.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The Treasurer and Chamberlains are to be ordered that they are to search for what can be effective to preserve the king's estate in the matter of the half-manor, and for the reason why the manor came into the king's hand; and the Chancellor is to be informed of what has been found, so that he can further instruct the justices as reason demands.

Dated on the guard to 1317-1327, with reference to CPR 1317-21 p.37 (the grant to John de Margny, dated at Ware, 14 October 1317) and the fact that SC 8/54/2682 states that it was dealt with by Edward II. A further note dates it to '? 1318' with reference to Docs. Illus. English History p.10 (from the October parliament of 12 Edward II (1318)) and CPR 1317-21 pp.250-251, which is dated at York, 26 November 1318.Robert le Baud was Sheriff of Northamptonshire between 13 November 1279 and 29 November 1289.
