Nature of request
The Prioress and convent of Henwood state that they have been ruined by bad governance, and are being overburdened with pensions, corrodies and other charges. They ask the king to take them and their possessions into his hand, and to grant their keeping to Richard, Prior of Coventry, Roger Leche, John Weston and Thomas Buxton for seven years, according to the tenor of the letters patent granted to the Prior of Coventry in a similar case. They also ask that they might be discharged from all pensions, corrodies and other charges in the meantime, and that the king might grant them his protection with the clause 'nolumus'.
