Nature of request
Thomas de Hoton, who was granted the herbage of Plumpton Wall in Inglewood for ten years by the king's father, states that, at the request of the king's father, the people of Galloway, fleeing the Scots, were allowed to pasture their animals there for two years and more. He asks for an investigation into this, and that he might receive an allowance in his farm in accordance with what is found.
Nature of endorsement
Robert de Barton and Adam de Skelton are to be appointed to inquire into for how long the men of Galloway stayed with their animals in the forest of Inglewood at the command of the late king, and into how much profit the same Thomas lost from the issues of Plumpton Wall through their stay, and into other circumstances etc.; and the inquisition is to be returned in Chancery so that the king is informed of it; and when the king's letters of permission for them to be received there with their animals have been examined, there is further to be done in the matter of the same Thomas' farm in this respect what is rightly etc.
