Nature of request
The men of Hopedale and Kinnerton state that they came before the king at Northampton the previous Christmas and showed him that, although when he had granted Hope and Kinnerton to Earl Warenne he had charged him to maintain the people there in the same condition as they used to be in the king's time, Earl Warenne had in various ways failed to do this. They petitioned the king for remedy, to which the Earl replied that he knew nothing of such grievances, and that they would not be continued. However, they have since found them worse than ever, and again ask the king to maintain them in their previous estate.
Nature of endorsement
Expedited before the king (coram rege). The Prince of Wales is to inquire through his council, at his next coming there, what estate they had in the time of the Queen, the consort of the present King, and in the time of the King: and he is to maintain them in the same estate.
