Description
Petitioners
Richard de Holand
Name(s)
de Holand, Richard
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Richard de Holand states that when he was in the service of the king's father in Gascony with the Earl of Kent, he was outlawed in the county of Lancashire for various felonies and trespasses for which he was indicted at the suit of the king's father; and that the king, on account of this service, sent a letter under the targe to the Chancellor to send a writ to Geoffrey le Scrop, and his companions, justices, to annul the outlawry, as can be seen from the transcript of the letter sewn to this bill: but the Chancellor refused to do anything, because the writ was not issued in Chancery. He asks for a remedy for these things, so that the outlawry might be annulled.
Nature of endorsement
The whole council is advised that the king's service is no reason to annul an outlawry, if this is not ordained by a new law.
