Reference
SC 8/52/2587
Date
[c. 1324]
Description
Petitioners
Prior of Upholland
Addressees
King and council
Occupation
Prior of Upholland
Nature of request
The Prior of Upholland in Lancashire states that he leased the manor of Woolton and other lands and tenements from the king for three years from last Michaelmas, and Humphrey de Walden, who with John de Lancaster arranged this lease when the king was in those parts, promised him a deed or other recognisance, which he has not received. He therefore requests such a deed or recognisance attesting to this lease.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that when they have informed themselves that the lease was made as in the petition, they are to let the same Prior have a commission on this etc.
Places mentioned
Holand (Upholland), Lancashire
Wolveton (Woolton), Lancashire
People mentioned
Humphrey de Walden
John de Lancastre (Lancaster)
Note
Edward II was at Upholland in October 1323 (various documents are dated there in CPR 1321-4 pp.343-7). Humphrey de Walden and John de Lancastre are also attested to at about this date (in separate documents in CPR 1321-4 p.256, for example, dated 25 November and 2 December 1322). The 'last Michaelmas' is then probably Michaelmas 1323, and the petition then dates to some time before Michaelmas 1324.
