Description
Petitioners
Catherine Hod and the other sons and daughters of Robert Hod of London
Name(s)
Hod, Catherine
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Catherine and the other sons and daughters of Robert Hod of London state that the king owed their father £28 8s. 5d. for corn and firewood bought from their father on a number of occasions, for which they have tallies. They request payment, as they have sued for a long time without result, and as they were left nothing else by their father and are destitute as a result.
Nature of endorsement
Coram domino rege. The accounts of the purveyors are to be examined, and if it is found that the king was provided with it, the king is to be informed, and if the king was not provided with it, then the Treasurer and Barons are to have the parties called and are to do justice.

Note
Dated on the guard to 1 Edward III. But perhaps more likely to be from the reign of Edward II, as William de Hathewy (king's baker, see SC 8/51/2511) and Hamo de la Chuambre (if he is the late Hamo de la Chaumbre who held a rent in the city of London of the king's gift, mentioned in CPR 1307-13, dated 26 December 1310) seem to be associated with the earliest years of Edward II's reign. The petitioners mention suing for a long time, but there is no mention of the debt being owed by the late king, which would suggest that the petition is no later than 1327. The French endorsement would suggest that it is unlikely to be earlier than 1322.
