Description
Petitioners
Henry de Hockele, son of Henry de Hockele
Name(s)
de Hockele, Henry
Addressees

Nature of request
Henry, son of Henry de Hockele states that on the Monday before the feast of St Catherine in the sixth year of the present king's reign, William de Peyto and John Turvill, with others, came to Wolverton and seized and carried off his wife and £20 worth of his goods and chattels, and have held them since then. He has sued in Chancery for a remedy, and for a fine of 40s. was granted an oyer et terminer, but the justices are refusing to act, and Henry has been openly threatened by William and John because of his suit. He requests a remedy, and that his fine be annulled unless he can have other justices.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue in Chancery for the commission to be annulled and other justices assigned.
Places mentioned
Wolwardyngton (Wolverton), [Warwickshire]
People mentioned
Henry de Hockele, father of petitioner
William de Peyto
John Turvill
Elizabeth [de Hockele], wife of petitioner
Note
CPR 1330-4 p.505 is dated at Marlborough, 15 December 1333, and is clearly the original oyer et terminer. SC 8/51/2532 is likely to have been presented at either the February or the September parliament of 1334, with this petition seeming from the response, and the fact that it does not mention threats made at the current parliament, to be slightly later.
