Nature of request
The petitioners ask that the staple established at Kingston upon Hull might be confirmed in the present parliament, for the increase of the king's customs and subsidies and for their relief, and that if anyone should speak against this, for his own advantage, the truth might be determined before the council by the Sheriff, knights and other good people of their country, and by foreign merchants.
