Nature of request
The Prior of Hexham states that his house has been burnt down and destroyed by the Scots and his canons dispersed, and requests 40 marks annually for sustenance for eight canons, from the issues of Knaresborough or some other escheat, until they can return to their house.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The king does not at present have information on the damages which they have sustained; and when he comes to the north he will make inquiries etc.

Dated on the guard to c. 1315, with reference to CPR 1313-7 p.672 and Bain, vol. III, nos. 435 and 466.CPR 1313-7 p.672 is dated at Thame, 22 June 1317.CCR 1313-8 p.265 (and Bain, vol. III, no. 466) is dated at Lincoln, 9 February 1316.Bain, vol. III, no.435 is dated 24 May 1315.None of these answers the petition, but they all indicate difficulties suffered by the convent at around this time. Bain, vol. III, no.435 mentions a proposed visit to the north, during which the king will inquire into the convent's problems, which makes c.1315 a likely date.
