Nature of request
The people of Hardwick, in which vill there are only nine poor tenants, state that they were assessed for the fifteenth granted to the king in the sixth year of his reign at 49s. 11d., at which very heavy rate they have been charged since, and fear that they will be charged in future: which will compel them to leave their tenements. They request a writ to the Treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to re-assess the vill, and that this new assessment be used both for the fifteenth and tax on wools lately granted and not levied, and for any similar taxes in future, and that the Exchequer might discharge both the collectors of the recent fifteenth and tax on wools, and any such collectors in future, of the sum by which the old assessment exceeds the new.
