Nature of request
Gilbert de la Hay requests the king's grace for his relief for his lands in Scotland, which have been ruined by the war, as if he has to pay the assessments for his lands, for those which his mother holds in dower and for those of his free tenants, from which he receives nothing, he will have to sell, as he also owes £400 for his father's debts. He also mentions that his ancestors were always allowed not to pay relief by the kings of Scotland.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The king has remitted £100 of his relief to Gilbert de la Hay; and he is to pay the remainder in instalments, that is, 20 marks annually, if he behaves well according to the king's will.

PROME. Roll 12, introduction, following Richardson and Sayles, The English Parliament in the Middle Ages, XIX, 149-150, assigns membrane 11 of the Exchequer parliament roll SC 9/12, on which a Latin summary of this petition can be found, to the autumn parliament of 1305.
