Name(s)
de Hawile (Hauville), Elias
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Elias de Hawile states that after his wife had promised not to marry anyone else she was handed over to her father until he had made satisfaction to the father for the marriage, and, although he and his friends promised a sufficient sum, she was abducted by Ralph de Seint Mor, John Punchardun, Richard and Edmund his sons, and others, together with his goods to the value of £22 and more. He requests a remedy for this trespass; and also, because she was handed over to her father by the king's council, and married within his jurisdiction, and taken by her husband from one diocese to another so that Elias cannot have justice through Holy Church, he asks that, if the king can do this, she might be separated from her husband until the justice of Holy Church is done. He also asks that he might have the record which she made before the king's council.
