Nature of request
William Haunsard states that although the citizens of London have always been able to buy and sell herring and other merchandise at will in Little Yarmouth, and to dry and prepare it and transport it elsewhere, on the Saturday before the feast of St Luke in the king's seventh year, various people from Great Yarmouth, whom he names, came with force and arms to Little Yarmouth, stole the herring which he had bought from various merchants to dry and prepare himself, and carried it off to Great Yarmouth in the ships moored at his quays. He requests that certain justices be assigned from among the great men and men of law, to hear and determine this trespass, and that a remedy be given to him.

The attack is described as having taken place on the Saturday before St Luke, 7 Edward III (October 1333). The petition must date from after the end of 7 Edward III (24 January 1334), but not from too long after.John de Perbroun and Thomas de Drayton are described as collectors of customs in Great Yarmouth in CCR 1333-7 pp.251 (September 1334) & 546 (February 1336).CPR 1334-8 p.430 is dated 3 May 1337.
