Nature of request
The petitioners state that they are being distrained by the Sheriff of Lincolnshire for the debt of Warren de Engayn, although they have never been tenants of the lands which belonged to Warren, and that this is being done by virtue of an inquisition held in a wapentake other than the one in which they live, in their absence and without their knowledge. They request a writ to the Sheriff to inquire, through good people from their wapentake, who the tenant of Warren's lands is, and that the distraint made on them might cease if they are not found to be the tenants.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ of Chancery of inquisition according to the form of the petition.

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1302' with reference to SC 8/173/8620. However, that petition is dated in reference to a close roll reference that seems to be totally irrelevant, so that the foundation of this dating is very insecure CCR 1296-1302, p.559).
