Name(s)
de Hamton, Walter

Nature of request
Hamton requests remedy and a writ to the sheriff to cease the injury done to him concerning a statute merchant falsely made binding him until the truth of this can be enquired of. Moniword had the keeping of one piece of the seal of statute merchant and having acquired the keeping of the other part has bound Hamton falsely and without his knowledge in a sum of money and sealed it in Hamton's name. Moniword now by virtue of this obligation according to the statute merchant has sued to take Hamton's body so that he dare not live in his country and to have his lands and tenements in Hereford to levy the money.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ of Chancery containing the effect of this petition to the justices assigned to hold the pleas of the king before whom the writ of the taking of his body is returnable, that they hear the complaint of Hamton, and they make to come before them Moniword with the piece of the seal that he has before him, and also those who have the keeping of the other piece of the seal together with their rolls, and make to examine and enquire in all ways that they are able if Moniword on the day that the recognizance was made had both the pieces of the seal before him, and of other matters touching the business, and that they do right. And if Hamton finds sufficient mainpernors to answer the debt if this is adjudged, and to do what the court will adjudge then they are to surcease the pursuit of his body and also his lands taken concerning this business.
