Reference
SC 8/50/2490
Date
[1366-1373]
Description
Petitioners
John Hamely; Joan Hamely, wife of John Hamely
Name(s)
Hamely; Hamely, John; Joan
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioners request that a remedy be ordained concerning fines levied in ancient times so that people are not disinherited. The effect of a fine previously levied between John and Alice Plecy, plaintiffs, and Robert and Joan Plecy deforciants, regarding the manor of Tedburn St Mary, has been to deprive them of their claims and rights.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be at the common law.
Places mentioned
Tedstone Delamere, [Herefordshire]
Shrewsbury, [Shropshire]
People mentioned
Thomas de Welond, Justice of the Bench
John de Plecy, brother of Joan Hamely
Alice [de Plecy], wife of John de Plecy
Robert de Plecy, brother of Joan Hamely
Joan [de Plecy], wife of Robert de Plecy
William de Hopton
John de Wysam (Wisham)
Note
The petition appears to date to the period 1366-1373, but probably closer to 1366. The Hamelys received the delivery of some lands that had descended with the Plecy family by an order of 5 June 1366, and it is likely that this petition relates to this in that they both formed part of the attempts of the Hamelys to recover their inheritance (CCR 1364-8, p.226)
