Nature of request
1) The petitioners state that they delivered 215 marks of the fifteenth to the abbot of Quarr and Ryngbourne . . . of the council to the delivery of the Isle upon the defence of this . . .2) The petitioners request a similar writ to the prior of Christchurch Twynham, collector of the tenth in the Isle . . . marks in all haste . . . . to the abbot of Quarr and Ryngesbourne.3) They request a commission to Theobald de Gogges to distrain all those who hold land in the Isle, but who do not live there to come to defend the Isle by 22 August on pain of the seizure of their lands, goods and chattels, excepting those in royal service.4) The petitioners requests another commission to compel all those with land in the Isle to find soldiers or archers in times of war.5) The petitioners request remedy and writs be granted to the sheriffs of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and Sussex to make proclamations within their counties that those of the Isle who are there return to the Isle within 8 days of the proclamation on pain of forfeiture of all their lands and tenements and goods and chattels in the isle being seized into the king's hand because a great part of the commons of the Isle have fled, some to be discharged of payment of the fifteenths, and some by greed have great wages that they are not accustomed to.6) Let a commission be made to the petitioners to array the commons in arms, and to make proclamations that no one pass out of the Isle, and that no boat depart the Isle on pain of forfeiture of the boat, and imprisonment of his body until fine is made to the king.7) Item let a commission be made to the petitioners to punish labourers according to the statute lately made and used in all of England which will turn to the great profit of the king.
