Description
Petitioners
Oweyn de Mount Gomery (Montgomery).
Name(s)
de Mount Gomery (Montgomery), Oweyn
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
1) Mount Gomery requests remedy concerning . . . Vaghan and others with many armed men came to his chapel and his houses in Burton and elsewhere and broke into them, and taking his charters and muniments of the gift and of the lay tenements, and his goods and chattels both temporal and spiritual at the command of Charleton. Charleton procured letters under the privy seal from his brother to the sheriff of the county by which he was ousted from his right without law and judgement.2) Mount Gomery requests remedy as he has been ousted from the seneschalcy of the forest of Shropshire by Charleton. He bought the custody of the seneschalcy from Hacche until the heir came of age, Hacche having bought it from the queen, and holding it peaceably for 8 years.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the trespass which he alleges was done to him, he should sue at the common law.2) Concerning the mandate of the king emanating by a writ of the privy seal it is considered by the council that in so far as it can appear by the transcript sewn to this petition they are sufficiently in accord with justice, and that the king by the ways that seem most convenient to him for the conservation of his peace is able, by writ of either seal, to direct his orders to whomever and as often as he pleases.
