Nature of request
Goldbeter requests that he be granted the body of Melcheforth who has been arrested at the suit of Goldbeter and detained in the prison of the city of York to be delivered to the burgomasters and eschevins after his kinsman and servant has been delivered to Goldebeter. The burgomasters and eschevins of Bruges had taken Goldbeter's kinsman and servant with his goods and merchandises because of the dispute between the king and them, and imprisoned him until he makes fine with them.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.Let it be ordered to the mayor and bailiffs that they safely keep the Fleming and his goods and chattels, and that they certify in Chancery of what goods he had and their value. They are also to inform themselves of what goods Goldbeter had in Flanders and have been arrested, and their value, and certify the king in Chancery, and the king will cause to be done what is to be done by reason.

The petition dates to 1337 as it resulted in a writ to the mayor and bailiffs to deliver the goods and chattels of the Fleming to Goldbeter by a writ issued on 4 June 1337 (CCR 1337-39, p.74).
