Date
[1344]
Description
Petitioners
John de Gray (Grey) of Codnor.
Name(s)
de Gray (Grey), John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Gray requests a writ out of Chancery according to the judgement of parliament for the justices to proceed in the plea which he had brought against Mauny for the manor of Oneston which is part of his inheritance, and this not withstanding the writ that Mauny brought after the parliament, so that Gray is not disinherited. Mauny had alleged that he had the manor by gift of the king and had said that he could not answer without the king. Gray had requested in parliament that the justices be ordered to proceed in the plea, which was granted, but Mauny had obtained a writ to stop the suit, and still nothing has been done.
Nature of endorsement
Let Walter be examined if he has anything to say for which the judgement made in parliament should not be executed, and if he doesn't, the petitioner should have a writ to the justices to proceed in the plea according the judgement.
Places mentioned
Codnor, [Derbyshire]
Overstone, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned

The petition seem s to date to 1344 as the matter seems to have been very much live then, Mauny being excused his default before the justices of the Bench on 1 March and 8 October 1344 because he was in royal service (CCR 1343-6, pp.475-6).
