Reference
SC 8/49/2438
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
William Graunson, knight; Sibyl Graunson, wife of William Graunson.
Name(s)
Graunson; Graunson, William; Sibyl
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioners request that the keeper of the manor of Tytherley be ordered to remove the king's hand and it be delivered to them as it was agreed by the council along with the issues, and that the fine that they had to make to Despenser granting the manor and the advowson there for the release of their son after his imprisonment at Windsor for the quarrel of the earl of Lancaster, be cancelled.
Nature of endorsement
Because it was attested before the council that the manor contained in the petition was given for the delivery of the petitioner's son from prison, it is agreed by the king and his council that the petitioners be aided for the recovery of their manor in all things as they were before the quarrel.
Places mentioned
Windsor, [Berkshire]
Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire
People mentioned
Piers [Graunson], son of the petitioners
Thomas [of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster
Hugh le Despenser, the father.
Note
The petition cannot be dated precisely, but as it concerns lands that had been obtained by Despenser, it must date to 1327 or shortly thereafter. As the petition suggests that the council had already been involved, it may be later 1327 or 1328.
