Nature of request
The petitioners request that they can have an allowance for the corn that they were assigned to carry to Newcastle and of the carriage and expenses that they incurred. The petitioners arranged for the same to be shipped, but the boat was attacked and the crew killed, and part of the victuals stolen. The boat was found on the coast of Grimsby where what remained of the victuals were delivered to the king at York. However the treasurer of the Wardrobe will not allow them anything for the victuals or for the costs of carriage.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons that they summon before them Roger de Waltham to inform them of the things that came in the hand of the king, whereof this petition makes mention, and hear also the reasons the sheriffs, and if necessary to make enquiry of the truth, and do right and reason.2) Coram domino rege.

The petition dates to 1324 as it was shortly after the end of the petitioners' term as sheriffs (List of Sheriffs, p.202). In addition the third request in the other now severed portion of this petition (SC 8/49/2428) was answered by a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer on 13 June 1324 (CCR 1323-7, pp.115-6).
