Nature of request
1) The petitioners request remedy as they have always made satisfaction of all aids granted to the king for all their lands for three knight's fees. A further sum is being demanded from them.2) The abbot requests that he be quit of all demands and distresses for a moiety of a sum with which he was charged by the justices assigned to examine oppressions in Somerset and Dorset, and that he be quit of the sum according to the grant made to him by the charters of the king's predecessors. He was granted a moiety of all fines from his tenants.3) The abbot requests that he be quit of a further sum demanded by the justices1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first petition he should have a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that if they are able to find by inquisition or other means that they hold all their lands for three knight's fees, and that they have made satisfaction for the three fees as the petition alleges, then let them be discharged of the 40s. that is demanded for the fourth fee not withstanding that the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset is charged with such a fee at the Exchequer in the time of the king's grandfather.2) Concerning the second and third parts they should attend the Treasurer and show their charters that this petition mentions.

The petition dates to c. 1342 as the assignment of justices to hear complaints of oppressions and extortions of royal ministers was issued on 10 December 1340, and the petition refers to a further part of their activities in 16 Edward III (CPR 1340-3, p.112).
