Nature of request
1) The bishop requests that the king confirm the charters and muniments of the church with which it was endowed by the king's predecessor as kings of Scotland, and command that the chaplains and clerks in the church are paid their arrears.2) He further requests the king's aid in his forest of Mauldslie and Carluke for timber so that he can make a hall and chamber for a receipt at Carstairs, and that letters be sent to the sheriff of Lanark, and another letter to his foresters of Jedburgh for timber to make a receipt at Ancrum on the March.3) He further requests that the king will warrant and vouch safe the grant made to him of the manor of Farringdon, the inheritance of John son of Bernard, and the keeping of the inheritance, and the marriage of Bernard's mother, as he vouches to warranty the rolls of the king in the time of Walter Langton, Farringdon being held now by Roger Corbet.1)

Coram rege.2) Concerning the confirmation the king intends first to inspect the state of that land by his council in Scotland, and afterwards to have council upon the confirmation.3) Concerning the alms, the king wishes that the chamberlain do according to what was accustomed to be done in the time of King Alexander.4) He should have a writ to the king's lieutenant in Scotland that he should have timber in the forests of Selkirk and Maddesleye as much as 50 oaks.

The petition can be dated to 1305 by the writ to Robert de Clifford to give the bishop 50 oaks in the forest of Selkirk (CCR 1302-7, p.295).
