Occupation
Prior of Guisborough
Nature of request
The prior requests that the king have regard for malicious and false purchases of writs and order that no other writs are granted to Pothowe who has harassed the prior and his canons by two writs concerning a brawl in which Pothowe was wounded, which occurred in the vill of Guisborough. The prior knows nothing of the brawl, and has been forced to tarry close to the king by the writs that have been purchased, and asks also if he may appoint an attorney to answer Pothowe.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested before the council that Pothowe said in Chancery when he purchased the first writ, that he named the prior in the writ for no other reason but because he was not able to have his action before the canons without it, it is agreed by the council that a writ be ordered to the justices that they receive the attorney of the prior for the mischiefs contained in the petition. It is also agreed that he not be able to add more names in the writ that are not now in it.
