[The end of each line of this petition is illegible.] As alien tenants of the King, the Bailiffs of Ipswich inform the Chancellor . . . of these burgesses of Berwick, [he] brought by sea to the said town of Ipswich salmon, hides and other small things . . .and has bought instead wheat, peas and beans, to carry where he pleases for his own profit, by virtue of a letter . . . has shown and said to be sealed with the seal of the Earl of Angus, Keeper of the Truce in the Scottish March on behalf of our lord the King . . . we send to you if it please you to examine it. And because we understand that he wishes to take the said victuals to Scotland and . . . form of the said truce, or of the power of the aforesaid Keeper, or of the will of our said lord the King in the accusations . . [them] arrested and held under arrest until we have your counsel on this. And therefore, if it please you . . . will of our lord the King on this by his writ to be sent to us, so that we have a warrant. God save you, sire . . ..
