Description
Petitioners
Gwenthyan (Gwenllian) daughter of Meredith.
Name(s)
Meredith, Gwenthyan (Gwenllian)
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Gwenthyan requests that because she is so old and feeble and cannot work a piece of land that she holds in Cardiganshire that she be able to grant it to her two daughters, and if it is to the king's profit that it is not divided but granted to one of the daughters that she be able to enfeoff whichever daughter that she wishes. She requests a writ to the justice of Wales to enquire into this.
Nature of endorsement
She should declare which daughter she wishes to give it to, and once the declaration is made, let her have a writ ad quod damnum to the escheator in those part.
Places mentioned
Cardiganshire.
Note
The petition possibly dates to the late 1320s, as it would seem that by 1331 the petitioner's daughter had been ejected from the land, and by 1332 the petitioner was dead (Petitions Relating to Wales, p.65).
