de Grey, Richard

Nature of request
Grey states that he has petitioned parliament concerning the manor of Oveston, now in the king's hands, requesting that the manor be restored to him. The petition was answered and certain persons were instructed to enquire into his claim and try his right in Chancery. The king had previously granted the manor to Mautravers, for which reason Grey could not obtain a remedy. Nevertheless, Grey obtained a common law writ against Mautravers concerning the manor. Mautravers showed the king's charter in response and the justices were unable decide the case without the king. Grey asks that the king instruct his justices to proceed in the plea so that he is not disinherited against the terms of Magna Carta.
Nature of endorsement
The king and council instruct the treasurer and his chamberlains to search the treasury rolls and muniments for anything that will bar Grey's demand made in the Eyre of Northampton against Mautravers over the said manor. A writ is to be made on this.
