Description

Nature of request
The petitioner seeks the resolution of various disputes between himself, Angel, Jacob, John, John and other merchants, and the king, concerning their goods on board a ship owned by Sandey that was arrested at Southampton on the king's orders. The petitioner and his fellow merchants are each under a bond of £1000 in chancery to abide the decision of the king and council, and the petitioner is alleged to have attempted to recover his goods by force and arms and hence falsely indicted for debt before the sheriff of London. He seeks letters patent from the king to the mayor and bailiffs of Southampton for the recovery of his goods and letters of supersedeas to the mayor and sheriff of London concerning his indictment for debt.
Nature of endorsement
The council agrees that a supersedeas should be sent to the mayor and sheriff of London to take no action in any suit pending before them concerning the petitioner, and that the merchandise should remain in the king's hands. Present were men from the chancery, treasury, and clerks of the rolls: John Bussy, Henry Grene, and John Russell.
