Nature of request
The petitioner requests that he be granted livery of certain lands, tenements, shops, solars, buildings in the parish of St Martin in the city of London as cousin and next heir of Nicholas Spenser. In year two of the king's reign a writ of diem clausit extremum was issued upon the death of Spenser on the Nativity of Our Lady and held in the presence of the mayor of the city, which found that on the day of his death Spenser held the said properties of the king and that the petitioner (aged forty-two years) was his next heir. But the father of the petitioner, John Gerard of Lambeth, had been convicted of a felony in the time of Edward [III], for which reason the petitioner was ousted and denied livery of his inheritance etc., which ousting has been annulled through a writ of right before the justices of king's bench.
