Nature of request
1) The petitioners show that whilst going about their business of maritime commerce the men of the Cinque Ports have assaulted, wounded and robbed them around the coasts of England and Brittany, which has happened since their dispute was placed before a court for arbitration. To be delivered to the king.2) The petitioners were warned by merchants and other good men that the men of the Cinque Ports were plotting to destroy their ships without regard to the aforesaid arbitration and the king's peace. Since the petitioners indicted the malice of their enemies they cannot venture in commerce without assembling large fleets of ships and thus lose the profits on their goods. The petitioners ask that the king impose the peace between both parties previously declared by the arbitration.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram Rege.2) It is commanded by the king that both parties are in the next parliament and that meanwhile they all maintain his peace under forfeiture of their lives and all their goods. This applies to any other damage or trouble.
