Description
Petitioners
John Gernoun of Walsworth
Name(s)
Gernoun, John
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
The petitioner states that for his service to the king in the Scottish wars he was pardoned of various felonies. Afterwards it was ordered by the king and council in parliament that all such charters should be inspected before the feast of St John the Baptist lately past before the sheriffs and coroners, that such felons have made sufficient surety. And during all the time that the statute was made public the petitioner was in Scotland on the king's service and is concerned that in times to come he may be impeached. The petitioner asks the king to order the sheriff of Hertfordshire that notwithstanding his surety, his charter still remains in force.
Nature of endorsement
This should be brought to the attention of Edward de Kendale in whose company the petitioner was during his service in Scotland when the statute was enacted. Let an order be made to the sheriff that the petitioner is to be excused his surety until Whitsun next, and that the names of his guarantors be returned into chancery without their seals.
