Nature of request
The petitioner shows that he has letters of credence from the people of Oleron that the so-called king of France entered into their island against their will and robbed their goods, killed many of the king's men and broke the seal of his arms. The petitioner requests that thirty ships and ten galleys manned by men-at-arms from Bordeaux and Bayonne be sent to the said island to drive out the traitors, and that letters be sent to the seneschal ordering him to fortify the island. After the island is conquered the petitioner requests that twenty men-at-arms and five hundred foot-soldiers be despatched as a garrison, and that as in other times the Englishman Bodeketon be appointed their leader.
Nature of endorsement
The king commands that help be sent immediately to the people of the island to the contentment of the petitioner. Concerning the other matters the king will respond at the time of his choosing.
