Description
Petitioners
Robert le Galician.
Name(s)
Galician, Robert
Addressees
The King
Nature of request
The petitioner shows that he has been delayed from obtaining ten quarters of flour on St Lawrence's day and 16s. of cornage at Martinmas from Groville, which was granted by Arikebet and Sotewant upon the marriage of the petitioner's father and mother and to their heirs. Concerning this matter, his father is named in King Henry's rolls as his guarantee and the bishop's bailiff and Grandison granted seisin to the heirs, and the mother of the heirs died whilst so seised. After this Darcy the bailiff (by order of the bench of London) ousted the petitioner, who then brought a writ for the return of his rights, for which the petitioner required the king's grace to attend the inquest to try his right. The petitioner asks the king to restore his rights.1)
Nature of endorsement
It is answered that what is asked cannot be done because the predecessors of the petitioner are excluded by judgement whereby the fee is adjudged forever to belong to the king because the predecessors did not show their charter of King Henry which they said they have on the day assigned to them to show the same, nor do the letters from the Chancery upon the restitution of the fee obtained afterwards stand in the way because in the said letters mention was not made of the judgement, and so they were obtained by a perversion of the truth.2) This is approved by the council by consultation.
