Nature of request
The petitioners show that the men of the marshland of the said hundred claim the right to a third part of all manner of charges and fines concerning the said hundred by proscription from time without knowledge. A representation was made to the chancellor and a writ brought before Cantebr' and Fyncham to enquire into this custom, which enquiry (without informing the petitioners) has been returned into chancery to the detriment of the petitioners, who request that the inquest should come before the king and that they should be informed, and that their rights be confirmed by his power.
Nature of endorsement
They shall be examined before the justices. And it is ordered that the inquest is to be seen and heard by the petitioners before final judgement.
