The petitioner states that his grandfather died seised of twenty messuages, four cottages, forty bovates and ten acres of land at High Crosby in Dearham. After the death of William de Fortz (of whom the land was held in chief) the petitioner's father was in Ireland and he returned two years later to claim his inheritance, but the properties had been allocated in dower to Isabella and he was disinherited. The petitioner brought a writ of ael against Isabella, which was heard by Cressingham and his fellow justices in Cumberland, who replied that Isabella had been allocated her dower by the king. The petitioner seeks a remedy from the king.
