Nature of request
The petitioner states that he was appointed sheriff of Berwick by John Balliol, King of Scotland, and in the course of his duties guarding Berwick and other places incurred costs of £16 15s 3d. He requests payment of this sum by Sir Hugh de Cressingham. Similarly, the petitioner requests other costs incurred in guarding Berwick Castle and in other duties be paid to him. He asks the king to despatch a writ to Cressingham ordering the same.
