de Farlee, Robert
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Robert de Farlee, speaking for the king's advantage, and in his own name and that of all the terre-tenants of Winchelsea marsh, complains about John Longe, Bailiff of Winchelsea, who has received money from the king and from the terre-tenants to protect the land from the sea and keep the walls and drainage ditches in good condition, but has allowed them to fall into disrepair, leaving the land at the mercy of the sea, and losing the king rent, for which he and other Bailiffs had been accountable in the Exchequer. He requests a swift remedy, as he and the other terre-tenants fear that John Longe is about to leave the country.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested that the misfortunes are as great as the petition claims, the Warden of the Cinque Ports or his lieutenant in Winchelsea is to be ordered to inquire into the points contained in the said petition, and if it is found that the misfortunes and damages are as great as is attested and as the petition claims, the body of the said John is to be arrested and his goods, lands and tenements seized into the king's hand. And the said John is to be brought bodily before the council on a certain day to answer on the aforesaid points, and to do further what justice and reason demands.
