Nature of request
The Prior of Monkton Farleigh states that one of his predecessors acquired some lands at farm from the nuns of [Marcigny] in the fourth year of the king's reign, part of which were of the king's fee and part were of another fee, and that he paid the farm at the exchequer after the king took alien payments into his hand. However, Walter de Gloucestre, the Escheator, has now seized these lands and chattels into the king's hand, on the orders of the Treasurer, claiming that the Prior entered the king's fee without permission. The Prior claims that he has done no wrong for which he should be disseised without judgment, as he found his church seised of these lands as of the purchase of the third last Prior, and he asks that he might have them back.
