Description
Petitioners
William de Felton and Thomas de Heton
Name(s)
de Felton; de Heton, William; Thomas
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
William de Felton and Thomas de Heton state that they were present at the capture of Gilbert de Midelton, but not at the inquiry into his goods and in whose hands they were - as William was at that time in prison in Scotland. The inquiry, taken by Gilbert's steward and others of his adherents, found that they had taken his goods to the value of £2000, and a writ has been sent to the Sheriff of Northumberland to levy this from their lands and goods, without them being brought to answer. They request another inquiry, where they can come and answer.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer containing the effect of the petition, that they are to do justice to the complainants.
Places mentioned
Mitford, [Northumberland]
Scotland
People mentioned
Gilbert de Midelton (Middleton)
William Ridel, Sheriff of Northumberland
William de Ingow, Steward of Gilbert de Midelton
Note
The commission in CIM 1307-49 no.372 was made at Windsor, 6 February 11 Edward II (1318), and the inquisition was held at Newcastle upon Tyne on the Tuesday after the feast of St Cuthbert in September (4 September) 12 Edward II (1318).CPR 1317-21 pp.310-11 is dated at York, 15 February 1319.William Ridel was Sheriff of Northumberland Between 3 May and 16 October 1315 and between 3 August 1317 and 12 October 1319. As he is no longer Sheriff, this petition presumably dates from after October 1319.
