Description
Petitioners
Walter de Faucomberge, son of John de Faucomberge of Bilton
Name(s)
de Faucomberge, Walter
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Walter, son of John de Faucomberge of Bilton, states that he is claiming various lands and tenements in Grimsby, Brigsley, and Waltham, against various people, as of the inheritance of his mother, but the justices have stayed proceedings in this plea, because the Abbot of Meaux has put forward a claim that they are part of the manor of Weelsby, given to him and his convent by king Edward, the king's grandfather, in exchange for the vill of Wyk and the grange of Myton; and they have produced his charter for this, and requested the king's aid. He asks for a writ to the justices to proceed in the plea, once the record has been examined, and to do what the law demands.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be issued to the justices of the Bench to proceed in the plea and to do justice, notwithstanding the response or allegation of the Abbot of Meaux; provided that they do not proceed to judgment without consulting the king.

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1327 seq.' on the rather tenuous basis of CCR 1327-30 p.3, dated at Westminster, 10 February 1327, which seems to suggest that this manor is being discussed at this time. The hand and the mention of King Edward, the king's grandfather, also suggest the early years of Edward III.
